Provence Rose Wines

Rose wine is the most common selection among most wine lovers while vacationing on sea. We can agree that the light, refreshing and fruity character of the Rose is also the perfect definition of the Summer holidays in the Adriatic. Furthermore, Rose wine is often known as a perfect match with the local Mediterranean cuisine.

Provence, France is known as a leader in the dry Rose market, as for its unique terroir and ideal grape-growing conditions. Its signature pale colour is the result of Saignée, French bleeding method which suggests that pink juice from the must is removed at an early stage of production. As a result from everything above there is a great selection of wineries with delicious Provence Rose wines to choose from, below we are mentioning some of our favourites.

1. Caves d'Esclans Whispering Angel

Probably the most popular example of a Provence-style is Whispering Angel Produced by Château d’Esclans. Its main characteristics are pale pink colour and subtle but still complex taste. It is made as a blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Vermentin. Palate is very delicate with aromas of strawberries, grapefruit and peach, which makes it perfectly refreshing for the summer days.

*Food pairing recommendation: lightly grilled beef steaks, salmon, clams, mussels, shrimps, as well as goat cheese.

2. Domaines Ott Château De Selle

Another famous example of pale Provence rose is Domaines Ott and its variation Rose Chateau de Selle. Although, By Ott Rose from the same winery is also very recognisable, we choose this variation. It consists of a majority of Grenache, which gives it its characteristic colour and character. Also along with Grenache there are Cinsault, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Palate is characterised by refreshing citrus notes with a sweet and elegant finish.

*Food pairing recommendation: cold roast chicken, salads with goat cheese and fresh red berries, smoked trout.

3. Château Minuty 281

Vintage 281 is the latest Minuty Rose variation produced by Château Minuty. Its signature design with blue accents on the bottle is a nod to Mediterranean Sea which influences and elevates the Minuty vineyard. It is a perfect blend between Grenache and Syrah that create wonderful and intense aromas. Palate is delicate with combination of citrus, tropical fruit and white blackcurrant. This brings an explosion of aromas with complex white fruit, vine peach, salty, spicy and white pepper notes.

*Food paring recommendation: roasted lobster, scallop risotto, Peking duck, beef curry, salads with lobster, avocado and grapefruit.
